Course Overview - CE 310

3 + 1 = 4 Credit Hours Course Core Course


Pre requisite CE-308 Plain & Reinforced Concrete-I
Objective:
This course covers non destructive testing, durability of
concrete, special weather concreting, mix design and quality
control.
The syllabus also covers the analysis and design of simple
reinforced concrete members in sub structure and super
structure of reinforced concrete buildings
The students will learn economical and comfortable
dimensions of various components and their selection under
given conditions
The design would cover essential elements like slabs,
columns, footings, and stairs
The course will give introduction to the students about
methods of pre-stressing, materials used for pre-stressing,
their permissible stress limits and analysis of pre-stressed
beam

ASSESMENT SYSTEM*: Relative grading system will be
followed to award grades. % age weight of different exams is as
under:
Theoretical/Instruction 3 x 100%
Assignments 10%
Quizzes 10%
OHT Exams 30%
End Semester Exam 50%
Practical Work 1 x 100%
Laboratory Work 70%
Viva 30%

* The percentage of marks may be changed within the limits


specified by NUST Statutes depending on the interest of the
class.
CE 310
There will be 8 homework assignments, 6 quizzes, 2 OHTs, 1
comprehensive ESE.
Date of submission of assignments will be reflected. Late
submission will have a penalty (deduction of 20% marks for each
day of late submission, zero marks for submission delayed more than
5 days).
To encourage reading (reading assignments are reflected in
course schedule) and discourage copying of homework assignments,
most quizzes will be from reading and homework assignments.

All students are responsible to study the relevant topics from


the Text Book before a particular class. No exceptions will be
granted.

No excuse will be accepted for not coming prepared to the


Class.

Both for Materials and Properties Section and Design


Sections you should be in possession of relevant Text Book
and Design Aids.

You should be conversant with the CLOs and PLOs of your


course as reflected in your Course Plan.
Conduct in Class - CE 310
Class Seniors are responsible for updating the parade state on
white board and its submission. The white board should be clean
with the subject, instructors name and parade state written before the
class.
The seating plan should be neatly prepared and placed.
Students are not allowed chat or do work of any other subject
during the class.
NO USE OF CELL PHONES.
Everyone should be seated in the class 1-2 minutes ahead of start
time of the class.
You are not allowed to leave OR enter the class without permission
If I am late for class or absent for some reason, still students are
required to be in the class and no one is allowed to stand outside the
class.
Please keep in mind and follow common courtesies.
