For fourth grade of elementary students
RESEARCH PROBLEM
We have seen a lot of high school
students who make a lot of
pronunciation mistakes and we
consider that fourth grade is the
right moment to improve their
english skills in order to prevent
future mistakes.
Also, we have seen that fourth grade
students have a lot of difficulties
while they to learn to write and
speak correctly.

QUESTION
How to improve the teaching-learning process of
english as a second language in fourth grade
students, implementing
the didactic and playful Jolly Phonics method?
JUSTIFICATIO
Learn english phonetic isNa hard work to children,
because some phonems have different sounds and
kinds of pronunciation and articulations. That is why it
is necessary make teaching more dinamic and
attractive, using different kinds of strategies to catch
the students attention, and improve their learning
process of ESL.

JOLLY PHONICS METHOD

Jolly Phonics is a complete, fun and child centred


approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics.
With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-
sensory method is very motivating for children and
teachers, who can see their students achieve. The letter
sounds are split into seven groups.

Sue Lloyd taught for over 20 years in Woods Loke
Primary School (Suffolk). She has been the author
of many phonics books and resources in theJolly
Phonicsprogramme.

Sara Wernham
Sara Wernham is a primary/elementary school
teacher at Woods Loke Primary School in Lowestoft,
England.
