Calculation of Frictional Loss for Pump Selection

Losses in the straight lengths : from pump discharge to pump suction

Losses in bends, elbows, reducers tees : check for equivalent lengths

and then apply the friction factor for straight lengths

Losses in fittings such as strainers, gate valves, balancing valves,

flow meters, double-regulating valves : check for equivalent lengths
and then apply the friction factor for straight lengths

Losses in the cooling coil

Add up all the losses for the ONE circuit that offers the maximum
resistance to flow

Pump kw = l/s x Head in M x spgr bhp= (USGPM x Pump head (ft) x spgr)
103.2 x percent pump efficiency 3960 x percent pump efficiency
3960 = 33,000 ft lb/8.33 lb/gallons
used to convert to hp

As Per Calculations 215 kpa (69.334 feet of water)

Take FS 10 % Therefore select pump for approximately 215 kpa x
1.1, say 236.5 kpa = 24 M (80 feet)

Pump kw = l/sx Pump head (m) x spgr Pump Bhp = USGPM x Pump head (ft) x spgr
103.2 x percent pump efficiency 3960 x percent pump efficiency

Pump kw = 20 x 24 (m) x 1 Pump Bhp = 312 x 80 (ft) x 1

103.2 x 0.7 3960 x 0.7

Pump kw = 6.6 kw (9hp) Pump Bhp = 9

Select 7.5 kw (10 HP) Motor Select 10 HP(7.5kw) Motor
