Microsoft Corporation began as a small clique

Founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1975,


Microsoft started as a loose partnership
between Bill Gates and Paul Allen. They were

design and development.
In 1975, Gates and Allen convinced the
makers of the MITS Altair 8800 to adopt
their software.

This software used Beginners All-

(BASIC).

The combination of the MITS Altair 8800


and the system software became widely

In the 1980s, IBM selected Microsoft to


make the operating system for the PC,
which was IBMs first commercially
available personal computer.

In 1985, Microsoft released the first


edition of the Windows Operating
