Principle of Operation

The SafeZone Mini sends pulses of

infrared light with an angular resolution of
0.5 (1) over a maximum scan angle of
270. As a result resolutions between 30
mm (1.18 in.) and 70 mm (2.76 in.) can
be achieved (2).
The stated resolution is at the maximum
of the safety field which is 2 meters.
The first beam of a scan is available to
be started at 45 and continues to 225
The SafeZone Mini works on the principle of time-of-flight measurement. At the same time

as it sends out pulses of infrared light, an electronic stop watch is started.

When the emitted infrared light hits an object, it is
reflected and received by the safety laser scanner.
From the time between sending and reception of the
infrared light (t) the SafeZone Mini calculates the
distance to the object.

10 meters (442L-ACUSB-10)

There are two cable types offered to program 442L devices;

RS232 serial cable in 2 and 10 meter lengths
A USB cable in 2 and 10 meter lengths;
The USB cable requires a software driver if the latest version of the SCD program software (V3.0) is
not used.
Software driver can be down loaded from SafeZone web page;

SafeZone Mini Mounting Brackets

The SafeZone Mini has two M5 x 8 threaded holes in the back of the device for direct mounting to a
surface, there are also a number of mounting brackets are available to mount the SafeZone Mini

442L-AMBSZMN2

442L-AMBSZMN3
The SafeZone Mini mounting kit 2 (442L-AMBSZMN2)
is designed to protect the optics cover of the SafeZone
442L-AMBSZMN4 Mini as it allows direct mounting to a surface in the back
of the device

The SafeZone Mini mounting kit 1 is used to mount the device to a

surface in the back of the scanner. It is possible to use additional
442L-AMBSZMN1 mounting brackets which provide adjustment of the device in two planes.
The maximum adjustment angle is +/-11. It is necessary to use mounting
kit 1 (442L-AMBSZMN1) in conjunction with kits 3 (442L-AMBSZMN3)
and 4 (442L-AMBSZMN4) to get the adjustability in mounting.
Mounting kits 3 and 4 also work with mounting kit 2.

SafeZone Mini
Typical Applications
270 area protection in a work cell
More area coverage than 190 solution
1 or 2 Warning Fields, replaces safety mats
Applications which require a vehicle with
material to slow before a complete stop
Two Warning Zones allow load to be
slowed in two stages providing for
better control of the load as it slows
Safety Mat Replacement in front of a Machine
One or Two Warning Zones, two meter
configurable safety field.
Irregular shapes and configurations

Mobile applications for personnel detection or

collision avoidance
One or Two Warning Zones slows the
vehicle in two stages reducing brake wear

SafeZone Mini as a
Safety Mat Replacement
The SafeZone Mini is a single
part number solution compared to
a safety mat system which
consists of multiple mats, uniting
trim, perimeter trim and a Mat
controller to make up a complete
safety mat system.
Setting up a detection area with
the SafeZone Mini is as simple
as opening the SCD software and
using the drawing tool to create
the required shape and then
transmitting the configuration to
the scanner

SafeZone Project Pricing

We have implemented a process to assist our channel in winning projects that include a
large number of SafeZone safety laser scanners..
Before using this process, please use the price negotiation process to request special pricing. If the
requested multiplier is countered, it must be escalated to the BU. If the requested multiplier is below
BU DOA, the special project pricing model is enacted.

The minimum order quantity is 15 pcs of the SafeZone Mini; and for the Singlezone or Multizone, both
the scanner and the pre-wired memory module are required to obtain Project Pricing.
Field Process;
Email the Product Manager with the following info:
The competitors model number to help determine which SafeZone to offer against competitor.
As much application information as possible; operating environment, type of machine, operation range, etc.
Requirement for SafeZone Mini, Singlezone or Multizone and pre-wired memory module length (10M or 20M)
Advise the level of required pricing to the distributor that would win the business .

If approved, submit a request to appropriate Price negotiator for system authorization

Email the distributor Purchase order number to the Product manager.
