Curved BeamsBeams curved in plan are often used to support the circular walls of rein~
forced conerete water tanks, curved balconies and cirewlar domes. The
curved beams are generally supported on columns spaced at regular inter-
vals, Since the loads and reactions donot lie along the axis at any point of
the beam, torsional moments develop at certain cross sections of a curved
beam. However in the case of circular bears supported by symmetrically
placed columns, the vertical reactions are provided by the columns and duc
to the symmetry. the torsional moments at the cenire of the cutyed
beam between any two consecutive supports will he zero. Alsa the taxi-
mum negative bending moment develops at the support sections and
