Operator Recruitment Procedure

Industrial engineering department is responsible


for conducting on-the-job test for candidates to
ensure whether candidates are illegible or not as
sewing operator.
In case factory does not have IE department, line
supervisors carries out the test.
The type of tests conducted depend on the
experience of the person.

If the person is experienced or trained operator
then his sewing skills are tested.
The person is asked to make mock parts of a
garment like a collar, cuff etc.
The work is then assed and if it is satisfactory the
person is selected.

If the person doesnt have any previous
experience then the following things are
considered:-
- Age (18-35 years)
- Educational qualification ( minimum 8 or 10
Standard).
If they satisfy this criteria then some medical
tests like BMI, eyesight, blood tests are done.

If the test results are satisfactory then the


following tests are conducted
- A minimal intelligence test
- Concentration test
- Dexterity test
Depending on the results of this test the operator
is selected.

Sewing operators address a set of skills which are


very important.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a
commitment to doing things the right way.
Questions can be divided into four categories:
technical knowledge (machines, measuring and
procedures), quality control, safety and
collaboration.

Minimal Intelligence Test

Minimal intelligence test is required to see if the


person is able able to read well.
This helps us to know if the person can follow
basic set instructions in the sewing room.
The test consists of 10 questions and a person
who misses more than one question should be
scrutinized closely.

Concentration Test

The ability to concentrate despite distraction,


boredom or fatigue is a skill that requires a lot of
self-discipline.
Although the amount of time a person can
concentrate on a specific task will vary, there are
ways to lengthen this span.
The concentration test assesses how well we are
able to focus on a task and whether we have a
well-developed skills or strategies to apply when
we really need to.

Dexterity Test

They can help identify and evaluate certain forms of
brain damage, identify neurologically based learning
disabilities, and can assist in diagnosing dyslexia.
