Philippians 2:5-8

In your relationships with one another, have the

same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in
very nature God, did not consider equality with
God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the
very nature of a servant, being made in human
likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a
man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to death even death on a cross!

Of Christ

you and the woman, and between your
offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and
you will strike his heel.

. Genesis 12:1-3
The LORD had said to Abram, Go from your
country, your people and your fathers household
to the land I will show you. 2 I will make you into
a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make
your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I
will bless those who bless you, and whoever
curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.
1. The virgin Birth foretold in the OT
. Genesis 49:10
The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the
rulers staff from between his feet, until he to
whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of
the nations shall be his.
1. The virgin Birth foretold in the OT
. 2 Samuel 7:12-16
When your days are over and you rest with your
ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you,
your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his
kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my
Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom
forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son.
When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded
by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But
my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it
away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16
Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before
me ; your throne will be established forever.
1. The virgin Birth foretold in the OT
. Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign:
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son,
and will call him Immanuel.

. Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders. And
he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
2. The Historic Fulfillment of this Prophecy
. Matt. 1:18-25
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about : His mother
Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came
together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19
Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not
want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her
quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph son of David, do not be
afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her
is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give
him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. 22
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him
Immanuel (which means God with us). 24 When Joseph woke up, he
did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home
as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave
birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

c. To save men
. Hebrew 2:14,16
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too
shared in their humanity so that by his death he
might break the power of him who holds the
power of deaththat is, the devil16 For surely
it is not angels he helps, but Abrahams
descendants.
3. The Purpose of the Virgin Birth
d. To rescue the whole creation
. Romans 8:19-23
For the creation waits in eager expectation for the
children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was
subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the
will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation
itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and
brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as
in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not
only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the
Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to
sonship, the redemption of our bodies.
