Credit card companies cannot increase
rates for the first 12 months after an
account is open unless:
The card has a variable interest rate
The cardholder is more than 60 days late in
paying their bill
The card has an introductory rate (the
introductory rate must be in place for at least 6
months and then the rate can increase)

Some set-up and maintenance fees are
charged before the card is used
