Transparent concrete - Light-Transmissive

property.
Light-Transmissive property- uniform distribution
Plastic Optical Fibres (POF) .
Also known as Translucent concrete, LiTraCon.
MATERIAL USED FOR TRANSPARENT
CONCRETE

The two basic materials are:-

1. Fine concrete
2. Optical fibres
Fine concrete : cement & fine aggregate (sand)
Optical fibres: There are 3 kinds
I. Multimode graded-index fibre
II. Multimode step-index fibre
III. Single-mode step-index fibres.
PRINCIPLE

Transparent concrete works based on

Nano-Optics.
Fibers are placed directly on top of each other.
Fibers acts like slits & carry light throughout.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
almost same as regular concrete.
concrete are poured into the mould in layers.
On top of each layers, a layer of fibers is
infused.
Fiber & concrete are alternately inserted into
moulds at intervals of approx. 2 mm to 5mm.
Adding 4% to 5% optical fibres by volume
into the concrete mixture.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS.
The concrete mixture is made from fine
aggregate & cement.
1000s of strands of optical fibres are cast into
concrete.
Smaller or thinner layers allow an increased
amount of light to pass through the concrete.
The casted material is cut into panels or blocks
& polished.
EXPERIMENTS OF TRANSPARENT
CONCRETE:-
->EVALUATION METHOD OF LIGHT GUIDING:-
= (J1/J0)100%
Js0= 0 x A1= (W0/A0)x A1
Js1 = 1 x N = (W1/ n1) x N
s = [ ( x N x W1 x A0)/(W0 x A1 x n ) ] X 100 %

-correcton coefficient of measuring equipment

Js0-incident energy
Js1-transmission energy
A1-cross-sectinal area of transparent concrete
N-total number of POF
W0-light energy of incident probe
W1-light energy of transmission probe
s transmittance
n1- number of pof coverd by transmision probe
->LIGHT GUIDING EXPERIMENT USING HALOGEN AND
INCANDESCENT LAMP:-

->SELF-SENSING PROPERTY:-

fig: b isocline effect isochromatic effect

f= [(fc0-fcn)/fc0 ]100
f-compressive strength loss
fc0-compressive strength before freeze thawing test
fcn-compressive strength after freeze thawing test
->IMPERMEABILITY PROPERTY:-
-seal the boundary with epoxy resin
-POFs coating rough to increase the compactness
APPLICATIONS
floors, pavements and load-bearing walls.
Facades, interior wall cladding & dividing walls
Partitions wall
In furniture
Light sidewalks at night.
Illuminating speed bumps
ADVANTAGES
Energy saving
Good aesthetical view to the building.

DISADVANTAGES
Concrete is very costly
Skilled labour needed
CONCLUSION

developed by adding optical fibre or large

diameter glass fibre .
good light guiding property
It doesnt loose the strength parameter also it has
very vital property from the aesthetic point of view.
concept of green energy saving
