IDEA- An Overview
First passed in 1975
There are two purposes to IDEA
Protect the rights of children with
disabilities
Give parents a voice in their child's
education
Covers children ages 3 to 21
Ensures that all children receive a Free
Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
There are 13 different categories under
504 Plan- An Overview
Covers all people with a disability
Designed to eliminate discrimination against people
with a disability
Outlines child's needs through accommodations and
modifications
Defines a disability in three ways
The child has a physical/mental impairment that
substantially limits one or more major life activity
The child has a record of the impairment
The child is viewed as having an impairment or a
substantial difficulty that isnt temporary
Eligibility
