What is an invigilator?
The person in the examination room
responsible for conducting a particular
examination in the presence of candidates
They have a key role in upholding the integrity
of the external examination/assessment
The role of the invigilator is to ensure that the
examination is conducted as the rules
Why do you need invigilators?
The invigilator is present at all times to ensure:
That all candidates have an equal opportunity to
demonstrate their abilities
Security at all times - before, during and after the
That possible candidate malpractice is prevented
That possible administrative failures are prevented
Things an invigilator must do:

Written examinations:
At least one invigilator must be present for each group of
30 candidates or fewer

20 candidates or fewer

The invigilator must ensure that:

Supervising the candidates
Invigilators must:

invigilator must warn the candidate that he/she
may be removed from the examination room

should remove and keep any unauthorised material

On-screen tests
If possible use invigilators who are competent
in the use of IT
During an on-screen test candidates may have
to share access to a printer.
Remind your invigilators that work may need to be printed off
outside the time allowed for the test
Candidates must not be prevented from doing so, however,
they must be supervised at all times
Consider appointing an invigilator as a print monitor,
collecting candidates printouts for them
