Introduction
A three phase Induction motor is basically a constant
speed motor.
It is widely used in industry due to low cost and
rugged construction.
The speed control of induction motor is done at the
cost decrease in efficiency and low electrical power
factor.

Energy saving.
Low speed starting requirement.
Speed control either done by manually or automatic
control drive

Why VFD?

Variable frequency drives are used extensively in

industries because they reduce energy consumption and
energy costs, extend equipment life and reduce.
Maintenance cost and provide a tight process control.

5/4/17
Variable Frequency Drive Method
In this method, V/f ratio remains constant which leads to
constant flux.
Thus maximum torque is constant in this case.
Other advantages are Power factor at starting is improved.
The voltage and frequency achieve their rated values and
acceleration and deceleration of the motor can be
controlled by controlling the change of supply frequency.

EXPERIMENTATION

The main purpose of this Project is to control the speed of

a three phase induction motor using VFD through PLC.

The most cost effective and smallest drives which in a

compact and space saving design provide a powerful
motor speed control.

Advantages of Ac drives
AC drives are less expensive.
AC drive require low maintenance.
Save more energy.
Provides low speed motor starting facility.
Lighter in weight as compared to DC drive.

5/4/17
Disadvantages of Ac drives
Power converter for AC drives are more expensive.
Power converters for the control of AC motors are
more complex.
It generate harmonics in the supply system and load
circuit.

Application of PLC
Packaging.
Bottling and canning machine.
Power generation security system.

Conclusion
The present work describe a mechanism to monitor VFD
by PLC.
Speed of the motor can be controlled then wherever there
is use of three phase induction motor its speed can be
controlled.
A 3-phase induction motor was take for a experimental set
up offer various control modes of motor experiments.

Future Scope

RFID using Embedded program interface with PLC to

control the machine in the control room.
The operator will show the ID card to the RFID reader the
entire equipment will be turn on.
Any problem occur in the machine the controller will
indicate to the operator.
