My Case Study Child
J is a bright and active 3 year
old boy
He has a mom, dad, and older
sister.
He speaks English, but is
learning more Spanish every
day!
He loves to read his favorite
books, and play with his
friends.
Language
He began talking in full
sentences at 18 months
old, after only using a few
words.
Mom and Dad are both
bilingual, and Sister goes
to a bilingual school and is
now learning Spanish.
He is tongue tied, which
caused some worry about
his language development,
but he does not show any
signs of it affecting him
Emergent Literacy
J is writing his name by himself,
when he sees it in front of him
He does not like to sit down
and journal, but will draw brief
pictures randomly.
He knows all the letters in the
alphabet and easily identifies
the letters in his name in other
words
Emergent Literacy (cont.)
He listens to
readalouds, and
asks for books to
be read to him.
He has one book
that he can read,
and he is proud to
show his skill.
Literacy Environment
J is surrounded by books in the classroom, and is read to at
least twice every morning
His bedtime routine involves reading
His older sister practices her reading by reading to him
Mom has enrolled them in Make Way For Books programs
and supports literacy in many ways.
