a. What is the modal class?

b. What is the number of students that has the

height more than 62 inches?
6.4 Frequency polygons
A frequency polygon is a graph formed
by joining the midpoints at the top of
successive bars of histogram.
A frequency polygon gives the idea
about the shape of the data distribution.
The two end points of a frequency
polygon always lie on the x-axis.
Two type of frequency polygons:
a) Based on histogram

b) Based on frequency table

1. Add a class with 0 frequency before
the first class and after the last class.
2. Mark the midpoints on top of each bar.
3. Join the midpoints with straight lines.
Height (cm) Frequency
30-39 0
40-49 2
50-59 8
60-69 20
70-79 5
80-89 0
1. Based on the table above, find the lower boundary
and upper boundary of each class.

2. Draw out the histogram.

3. Then, based on the histogram, draw the frequency

polygons.
Importants..
1. Add a class with 0 frequency before
the first class and after the last class.
2. Mark the midpoints on top of each bar.

3. Join the midpoints with straight lines.
