LAKE TOURISM

Water is an attractive
element and plays an
important role in
recreation and holidays.
Besides coastal
tourism, a large
number of lake
destinations can be
found worldwide. Most
of those lake
destinations are very
different in terms of
morphology, climate,
culture, traditions, and Lake Baikal, Siberia
so on. Nonetheless,
they show also various
similarities concerning Introduction
their characteristics
and development
potentials.
In many parts of the
world lakes are a vital
part of recreation
and tourism as both a
location for leisure
activities, as well as an
atraction in their own
right. Lakes are also
used extensively
by many countries and
destinations in
tourism promotion
campaigns, whether it

image of the
destination or an
attractive backdrop for
other leisure activities.
Despite their
environmental
significance, lakes are
regarded as being
grossly under-represented
as ecosystems in the
worlds system of national
parks and
reservates. Lake systems
are the least protected of
the worlds biomes, a
major ecological
community of plants and
animals extending over a

large natural area that has
evolved so that they are
adapted to the range of
environmental factors,
such as climate, within
them.
As with many types of
tourism, the economic
and tourism significance
of lakes is difficult to
determine. In part, this is
an issue of definition as
lake tourism is tourism
that occurs not only on
the lake itself, but also in
the surrounding area.
Lake tourism systems
therefore include the
lake, the foreshore and
those amenities, facilities Pehoe Lake, Chile
and infrastructure in the
surrounding region that
support the role of the
lake as a tourist
attraction.
The condition of any
lake is dependent on
upstream inputs into the
lake, as well as on factors
in the lake itself. In
the case of many lakes,
changes in land-use
practices a great distance
away,
substantial impacts on
the environment can
follow for example,
with respect to
deforestation, Crater Lake, Oregon
agricultural practices
and the discharge of
industrial and human
waste into rivers and
streams that flow into a
lake.
Successful tourism
development
depends on a proper
balance of the use of
environmental
resources - as a basic
ingredient of tourist
products - and the
negative
environmental effects
tourism might cause Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand
to the environment
and nature.
There is quite a
consensus that
finite resources
and their quality
are limiting factors
for tourism
development. Even
though there are a
number of good
definitions of
sustainable tourism
and ecotourism the

The most notable feature
of the lake is the multi-
colored spots that are
very visible and
prominent even when
viewed from the
highway. The lake
contains the world's
highest concentration of
different minerals. These
spots consisted mainly of
magnesium sulfate and
as a result during
summer, these spots
become crystallized. The
lake evaporates and
during summer only the
minerals remain and
they form natural

The pink water of Lake
Hillier is permanent and
even if the water is taken
from the lake and
transferred to a different
container, the pink water
is still pink! Scientists
have tried to get samples
and studied the water but
until now they are still
unable to find the cause
for this amazing pink
color. Instead, they found
that the water contains
high concentration of salt
and it's hyper-saline. It's
only 600 meters in size
but the pink water can be

Sixteen cascading
bodies of water are
divided into upper and
lower basins by dams
made of moss, algae
and bacteria. The
surrounding setting is
heavily forested and
home to a multitude of
animal life, including
brown bears, eagles
and approximately 140
bird species. In
varying colors of azure,
green, gray and blue,
the lakes make up the Plitvice Lakes, Croatia
