Timeline

March 10, 1800
Sir Humphry Davy announces the anesthetic properties of nitrous oxide
Heated crystals of ammonium nitrate, collected the gas that was released
from it, pass it through water vapour, then inhale it through a
mouthpiece
Sir Humphry Davy and his Assistant Dr. Kinglake
It changed medicine by allowing dentist to
reduce pain amongst a patient.
1895
November 8, 1894
The discovery of X-rays
William Conrad Roentgen, J. Plucker, J.W. Hittorf, C.F. Farley, E.
Goldstein, Sir William Crookes, H. Herts, Ph. von Lenard.
Changed medicine by allowing radiologist to see the bones of the body
through this method
Berlin, Germany
1937
April 17, 1937
First vaccine for typhus.
Dr. Rudolf Weigl
They wanted this because in the large cramped Jewish ghettos, it was
easy and a good place for lice to breed (typhus is transmitted through
lice) so a lot of people were getting infected
To create the vaccine, he would raise millions of infected
lice and then would harvest their guts (where the typhus
bacteria grow) and put it in a pot with a chemical solution
which made the vaccine.
Lviv, Poland
1974
April 2, 1974
First Chickenpox Vaccine
Michiaki Takahashi
This changed the medicine in the future by allowing doctors to give
everyone the vaccine to stop the epidemic of chickenpox.
It was officially brought into the United States in 1981
Chickenpox is caused by varicella zoster
virus
It is highly contagious

George Church (Harvard geneticist)
His colleagues helped with the project
Used a gene editing technique to insert mammoth genes (small ears,
fat beneath the skin, hair length) into the elephant skin cells
This is only the first step in a long process, they still have more work to
do
Changed medicine by possibly allowing
animals that are extinct to be brought back by
de-extinction .
