Background of Jansenism

Started in1668
Founded bytheologian Cornelius Jansen
He took thewritings of Saint Augustineand interpreted theminto
the most extreme way possible
The leaders of small secret groups wholed the
Jansenismbeliefsstarted dying off
By the mid1700sthese small groupswereeliminated
Jansenismdiedin the late 1700s
What isit?

emphasizedoriginal sin, the necessityof Divine Grace, and
predestination
Predestination is the belief thatit is already decided by God if
you're going to Heaven or Hell

What the Church Actually Teaches

We are not forced tofollow God, whether we are catholic or not

with God and helps our freedom

followGod, we must if wewantto be in communion with God
The Church also teaches that we should receive the Eucharist
every Sunday
