Racial profiling

Introductory Slide

Hello my name is daequan gaither today i'm going to be talking about racial
profiling.
Thesis Statement slide
Even though some people believe that racial profiling is necessary to counter terrorism and reduce crime , racial profiling is ineffective
is a degrading practice that violates civil rights , and is a tool for distracting law enforcement agencies from more useful approaches or
is escalation of racially motivated violence
Argument 1

nfective.

g is an abusive practices that targets innocent citizens solely

ey way they look.

ling erodes trust between law enforcement and it's the

s a result people are less likely to report a crime or work with the
information that could apprehend a suspect.
Argument 2

Racial profiling is a degrading practice that violates civil rights .

-racial profiling is the use of race ethnicity religion or national origin by law
enforcement agents as a factor in deciding who to investigate arrest or detained,
except where the characteristic as a part of a specific suspect is a degrading
practice and continues largely unchecked, violating the human and civil rights of
those targeted
Argument 3
Racial profiling is a tool for distracting law enforcement agencies from more useful
approaches and the escalation of racially motivated crimes.
- When suspects are detained based on suspicious behavior rather than race,
police catch more suspects a 2005 report by a missouri attorney general is
testimony to the ineffectiveness of racial profiling white drivers, pulled over
and searched on the basis of suspicious behavior, were found to have drugs or
other illegal material 24% of the time and black drivers, pulled over a
searched to have drugs or other illegal material 19% of the time

Solutions/Conclusions/Call to Action
I believe that some solutions to ending Racial Profiling are to:
- having a better communication with lower income communities.

- not stereotyping a person just because they way they look

- having more meetings with the community and law enforcement

Personal Reflection
My overall experience through doing this project-

-This project was difficult because you had to do a lot of research of your topic and
have a lot of facts to explain your paper

-It was extremely stressful because they amount of time and research to write the
paper and time i had to put in to get certain facts about the paper stressing that i
complete my paper in the right way

-i feel like this experience was a good learning experience for me in the future
because in the future if i wanted to go to college and get a job i would know how to
do a brochure resume and how to write a paper because i didn't before
