Adipose cell, also called adipocyte or fat
cell, connective-tissue cell specialized to
synthesize and contain large globules of fat.
two types of adipose cell:
White adipose cell - large fat droplets,
only a small amount of cytoplasm, and
flattened, non centrally located nuclei.
Brown adipose cell- contain fat droplets of
differing size, a large amount of cytoplasm,

Why - it serves as a layer of protection,
absorbing shock potentially sustained
by the tissue. In young children will

men and women. For mens adipose
tissue is stored in the upper body.
Women tend to store in their lower
bodies. Children tend to have the
same fat distribution as their same-sex
parents. Lastly, after menopause,

Functions
Adipose tissue acts as an insulating layer,
helping to reduce heat loss through the
skin.
It also has a protective function, providing
mechanical protection ("padding") and
support around some of the major organs,
e.g. kidneys.
Adipose tissue is also a means of energy
Adipose
10 tissue
connective tissue where energy is
stored primarily as triglycerides.
Adipose tissue helps to cushion
and insulate the body.
The tissue is made up of
adipocytes and can be found
under the skin (subcutaneous
adipose tissue) or around the
organs (visceral adipose tissue).
