What are the common hazards
- ELECTRICITY is always trying to find the
easiest path to ground.
- Electricity often uses your body as good
conductors because about 70% of the human
body is WATER.
- Higher voltages can cause larger currents
and more severe shocks.
- Power drills use 30 times as much current
as what will kill.
- Currents passed across the chest are very
dangerous and can cause immediate death.
What are the types of burns caused
whilst working with electricity? by electricity?
- Exposed electrical parts - Electrical burn
- Overloaded circuits - Arc burn
- Damaged power tools and equipment - Thermal contact burns
- Wires with defective insulation Injuries that can be resulted from
electrical accident;-
- Incorrect wiring practices
- Overhead power lines - Deep burn caused by high tension voltage
- Improper grounding - Ear damage and memory loss resulted from
explosion (by arc blast)
- Working in wet condition

Dos
- WATER and ELECTRICITY do not mix Keep cable and
equipment dry. Use appropriate PPE to prevent
electrocution.
- Ensure cables are laid properly in a location where it will
not be easily damaged and cause electrocution.
- Join cable with proper connection but not insulation tape
alone.
- All equipment are properly earthed and cables are properly
protected with double insulation.
- Disconnect tools when not in use, before servicing, and
when changing accessories such as blades, bits, disc etc.
- Use only tools and cables that are free from defects.
- Always use Socket Outlet Assembly (SOA) for electrical
Donts
- Do not extinguish electrical fire with water.
- Do not tie the cable on metal scaffold or steel structure
without protection.
- Do not carry the tool from the cord and never yank the cord
to disconnect it from the receptacle.
- Do not use aluminium or metal ladder while working inside the
substation or near transformer.
- Do not carry out any electrical work unless all circuits and
equipment are de-energized and lock-out/tag-out system is in
place
- Do not overload by plugging too many appliances into one
outlet.
- Do not reset the circuit breaker without checking the fault.
 REMEMBER! ELECTRIC SHOCK CAN CAUSE INJURY AND DEATH
