FLORICULTURE

Floriculture is the branch of


horticulture that deals with the
cultivation of flowering and ornamental
plants for sales or use as raw material
in cosmetics.
Global Status
Growing at a compound annual growth rate
(CAGR) of about 15%,
Global floriculture industry is likely to cross
Rs. 9 lakh crore mark by 2015 from about Rs. 6
lakh crore now.
Global floriculture in the sense it includes all
cut flowers & foliages, bulbs, cuttings, live
plants etc.
INDIAN SCENARIO OF FLORICULTURE

After liberalization the government of india


identified floriculture as a sunrise industry and
accorded it 100 percent export oriented
status.
In India flowers is produced in two forms-
1. Cut flowers
2. Loose flowers
to be continued
The liberaliztion of industial and trade policies
paved the way for the development of export
oriented production of cut flowers.
The important floriculture crops in the
international cut flower trade are
rose,carnation,chrysanthmum,gerbera,gladiol
us,orchids,anthurium,tulip and lilies.

development authority(APEDA):-
1. Direct subsidy up to 50 percent is also
available in cold storage units.
2. Subsidy is provided on improved packaging
material to promote their use.
3. 100% Export oriented units are also given
benefits like duty free imports of capital goods.
Integrated development of commercial
floriculture scheme.
NABARD is providing financial assistance to
hi-tech units at reasonable interest rate.
Research activities in state agriculture
universities.
