MY ROLE AS A CHILD DEVELOPMENT
PROFESSIONAL

My Role as a Child Development Professional is to

work with children that have special needs.
In addition to my major role, I also work with
students that are learning English as a second
Language.
WHY AND HOW COME I AM PRESENTING THIS

Children who speak their native language in school will

successfully become English speakers with ease. According
to Genesee, Preschoolers acquire normal native ability in
the language of their surrounding community and good-to-
native ability in the second language, depending on their
exposure to it (Genesee, 2001).

EPSTEINS TYPES OF INVOLVEMENT
There are six types of involvement According to Epstein.
Parenting- having a creative environment that supports the child's
education.
Communicating- Keep communication lines open for school to home and
home to school
Volunteering-Get involved, go to field trips as a volunteer
Learning at home- Help your child with homework
Decision making- Be a part of the PTA, or a committee
Community Collaboration-Discover community events with other parents,
like a visit from the fire department, or the local vet.
HOW THIS TYPE OF INVOLVEMENT INFLUENCES A CHILDS
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT.

The influences of a child's learning and development

are key elements for a positive and long lasting
relationship between parents, children, school, and the
community.
ONE IDEA THE SCHOOL OR COMMUNITY COULD
IMPLEMENT RIGHT AWAY THAT ALIGNS WITH THE
CULTURES REPRESENTED AT THE SCHOOL.

An idea that I would like to propose is a school carnival that the parents and
community work together to make this an event that each child will remember.
In addition, I would like volunteers for interpreting non-English speaking
parents. I wish that this event will bring parents, the school, and the
community closer together.
