2.1 Equipment Power

The MSS-4/8 operates on -48 Vdc. Office power is connected to the PDU
which connects to the power connectors on the MSS-4/8.
The MSS-8 also operates on +24 Vdc. Office power is connected to the
PDU which connects to the power connectors on the Power Converter,
which connects to the power connectors on the MSS-8.
The MPT-HL operates on +24/48 Vdc or -24/48 Vdc. Office power is
connected to the PDU which connects to the power connectors on the
MPT-HL Transceiver.
The MPT-HC operates on -48 Vdc:
when connected off the CSM-E and cable length is 100 m or less, office
power is connected using the Power Injector Box or Power Injector Card
(Power Injector Card plugs into the MSS-4 and MSS-8 ).
when cable length is from 100 m to 300 m, power is supplied directly
from the PDU or office battery.
The Power Injector Box operates on -48. Office power is connected to the
Power Injector which connects to the MPT-HC power using the PFoE
solution.

MSS-8 shelf
The MSS-8 requires two power cables to provide fused power backup in
case of a blown fuse or bad cable/connection.
The A-side power connection is fused through the A-side of the fuse panel.
The B-side power connection is fused through the B-side of the fuse panel.
MSS-4 shelf
The MSS-4 requires one power cable.
In the event of a power failure, traffic will be lost on the MSS-4.
MSS-1 shelf
The MSS-1 requires two power cables to provide fused power backup in
case of a blown fuse or bad cable/connection. When only one power
cable is used, power is provided to the entire MSS-1.
The A-side power connection is fused through the A-side of the fuse panel.
The B-side power connection is fused through the B-side of the fuse panel.

2.3 MPT-HL and Power Converter

MPT-HL shelf
The MPT-HL Transceiver requires one power cable. In the event of a power
failure, traffic will be lost on the channel. For systems configured with 1+1
HSB protection, the main MPT-HL Transceiver (left-hand side) should be
fused through the A side of the fuse panel, and the spare MPT-HL
Transceiver (right-hand side) through the B side.
+24/-48 Power Converter
When office power consists of +24 Vdc, a Power Converter is required to
condition power to -48 Vdc for the MSS-8.
The Power Converter resides in the MSS-8.
Office power is connected to the PDU which connects to the Power
Converter.
The output of the Power Converter is connected to the MSS-8 power
connector(s). The Power Converter supports both unprotected and protected
power arrangements. The same PDU power cables are used to connect the
PDU and the Power Converter. Keyed power cables are used to connect the
Power Converter and the MSS-8. Configurations equipped with the +24/-48
Power Converter require the Enhanced Fan card.
