1 Cor 12:12-27 (KJV)

12 For as the body is one, and hath

many members, and all the
members of that one body, being
many, are one body: so also is
Christ.
13 For by one Spirit are we all
baptized into one body, whether
we be Jews or Gentiles, whether
we be bond or free; and have been
all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 For the body is not one member,
but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I
am not the hand, I am not of the
body; is it therefore not of the
body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because
I am not the eye, I am not of the
body; is it therefore not of the
body?
17 If the whole body were an eye,
where were the hearing? If the
whole were hearing, where were
the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the
members every one of them in the
body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member,
where were the body?
20 But now are they many
members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the
hand, I have no need of thee: nor
again the head to the feet, I have
no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members
of the body, which seem to be
more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body,
which we think to be less
honourable, upon these we bestow
more abundant honour; and our
uncomely parts have more
abundant comeliness.
24 For our comely parts have no
need: but God hath tempered the
body together, having given more
abundant honour to that part
which lacked:
25 That there should be no schism
in the body; but that the members
should have the same care one for
another.
26 And whether one member suffer,
all the members suffer with it; or
one member be honoured, all the
members rejoice with it.
27 Now ye are the body of Christ,
and members in particular.
THE CHURCH
ekklesia Greek word in the
New Testament
ekkaleo derived from the
verb
ek this prefix means OUT
Kaleo to call or summon; to
call out
CHURCH - an assembly or called-
out ones; called out assembly or
company
- Is not a building or
structure composed of wood, brick,
nails and mortar.
- The root meaning of the
church is not that of the building
but of the people.
Rom 16:5 (KJV)
Likewise greet the church that is in
their house. Salute my wellbeloved
Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of
Achaia unto Christ.
The Church is a body of Christ, of w/c
He is the Head.
Eph 1:22-23 (KJV)
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and
gave him to be the head over all things to the
church,
23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that
filleth all in all.

By one Spirit we are all baptized into

one body.
1 Cor 12:13 (KJV)
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one
body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles,
whether we be bond or free; and have been
all made to drink into one Spirit.
1 Cor 12:7 (KJV)
But the manifestation of the Spirit is
given to every man to profit withal.

1 Cor 12:27 (KJV)

Now ye are the body of Christ, and
members in particular.
The Purpose of the Church
(Negative View)
Is not to save the world.
Is not to serve the world.
Is not to attempt to rule the world.
Is not to fight the world.
Is not to imitate the world.
Is not to isolate itself from the world.
The Purpose of the Church
(Positive View)
It is to love God.
It is to glorify God.
It is to display Gods grace.
It is to evangelize the world.
It is to baptize believers.
It is to motivate believers.
It is to care for its members in times of
need.
It is to promote all that is good.
WHAT THE CHURCH NEEDS NOW
For love is of God and God is love.

1 Jn 4:7 (KJV)
Beloved, let us love one another: for
love is of God; and every one that
loveth is born of God, and knoweth
God.
What are the Greatest Needs of
CHRIST BAPTIST CHURCH as
a CHURCH?
WHAT WE REALLY NEED THIS
MORNING IS THE MEDICINE
PAUL IS PREACHING TO THE
CHURCH IN EPHESUS.
Eph 5:18-21 (KJV)
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein
is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs, singing and
making melody in your heart to the
Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things
unto God and the Father in the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another
in the fear of God.
WHAT THE CHURCH NEEDS NOW:
I. THE SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH
1 Cor 6:19-20 (KJV)
19 What? Know ye not that your
body is the temple of the Holy
Ghost which is in you, which ye
have of God, and ye are not your
own?
20 For ye are bought with a price:
therefore glorify God in your body,
and in your spirit, which are Gods.
LETS CHECK THE EVIDENCES AND
SEE WHERE WE STAND:
1. A Love for Gods Word
Col 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you
richly in all wisdom; teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs, singing with
grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or
deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by
him.
2. A Love for Biblical Preaching

Acts 2:41-42 (KJV)

41 Then they that gladly received his
word were baptized: and the same day
there were added unto them about
three thousand souls.
42 And they continued stedfastly in
the apostles doctrine and fellowship,
and in breaking of bread, and in
prayers.
3. A Thankful Spirit

1 Ths 5:18 (KJV)

In every thing give thanks: for this is
the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you.
4. A Submissive and Respectful
Spirit.
1 Pet 5:5 (KJV)
Likewise, ye younger, submit
yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of
you be subject one to another, and be
clothed with humility: for God resisteth
the proud, and giveth grace to the
humble.
Heb 13:17 (KJV)
Obey them that have the rule over
you, and submit yourselves: for
they watch for your souls, as they
that must give account, that they
may do it with joy, and not with
grief: for that is unprofitable for
you.
Rom 12:3 (KJV)
For I say, through the grace given
unto me, to every man that is
among you, not to think of himself
more highly than he ought to
think; but to think soberly,
according as God hath dealt to
every man the measure of faith.
5. A Lot of People Serving.

1 Cor 12:7 (KJV)

But the manifestation of the Spirit is
given to every man to profit withal.

1 Pet 4:10 (KJV)

As every man hath received the gift,
even so minister the same one to
another, as good stewards of the
manifold grace of God.
WHAT THE CHURCH NEEDS NOW:
I. THE SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH
II. A CHURCH IN UNITY
II. A CHURCH IN UNITY

Matt 18:19-20 (KJV)

19 Again I say unto you, That if
two of you shall agree on earth as
touching any thing that they shall
ask, it shall be done for them of my
Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are
gathered together in my name, there
am I in the midst of them.
John 17:21 (KJV)
That they all may be one; as
thou, Father, art in me, and I in
thee, that they also may be one
in us: that the world may believe
that thou hast sent me.
Ps 133:1-3 (KJV)
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it
is for brethren to dwell together in
unity!
2 It is like the precious ointment upon
the head, that ran down upon the
beard, even Aaron's beard: that went
down to the skirts of his garments;
3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew
that descended upon the mountains of
Zion: for there the Lord commanded the
blessing, even life for evermore.
WHAT THE CHURCH NEEDS NOW:
I. THE SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH
II. A CHURCH IN UNITY
III. A PRAYERFUL CHURCH
Luke 18:1-8 (KJV)
1 And he spake a parable unto them to
this end, that men ought always to
pray, and not to faint;
2 Saying, There was in a city a judge,
which feared not God, neither
regarded man:
3 And there was a widow in that city;
and she came unto him, saying,
Avenge me of mine adversary.
4 And he would not for a while: but
afterward he said within himself,
Though I fear not God, nor regard
man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth
me, I will avenge her, lest by her
continual coming she weary me.
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the
unjust judge saith.
7 And shall not God avenge his own
elect, which cry day and night unto
him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them
speedily. Nevertheless when the Son
of man cometh, shall he find faith on
the earth?
THE CHURCH NEEDS TO FACE THE
REALITY REGARDING OUR SIN
OF PRAYERLESSNESS.

1 Sam 12:23 (KJV)

Moreover as for me, God forbid that I
should sin against the Lord in
ceasing to pray for you: but I will
teach you the good and the right
way:
IF YOU DOUBT IT, CONSIDER THE
PRAYER OF MOSES

Ex 17:8-12 (KJV)
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with
Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose
us out men, and go out, fight with
Amalek: to morrow I will stand on
the top of the hill with the rod of God
in mine hand.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him,
and fought with Amalek: and Moses,
Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the
hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held
up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and
when he let down his hand, Amalek
prevailed.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they
took a stone, and put it under him, and he
sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up
his hands, the one on the one side, and
the other on the other side; and his hands
were steady until the going down of the
sun.
HOW ABOUT THE PRAYER OF
JOSHUA?
Josh 10:4-5 (KJV)
4 Come up unto me, and help me, that we
may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace
with Joshua and with the children of
Israel.
5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites,
the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron,
the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish,
the king of Eglon, gathered themselves
together, and went up, they and all their
hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and
made war against it.
WHAT COULD JOSHUA DO?

Josh 10:8 (KJV)

And the Lord said unto Joshua,
Fear them not: for I have delivered
them into thine hand; there shall not
a man of them stand before thee.
Joshua, with the Power of God in His
life, PRAYED SUN, STAND THOU
STILL UPON GIBEON; AND THOU,
MOON, IN THE VALLEY OF AJALON.

Josh 10:12 (KJV)

Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day
when the Lord delivered up the Amorites
before the children of Israel, and he said
in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still
upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley
of Ajalon.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Josh 10:13-14 (KJV)
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon
stayed, until the people had avenged
themselves upon their enemies. Is not this
written in the book of Jasher? So the sun
stood still in the midst of heaven, and
hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it
or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto
the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for
Israel.
HOW ABOUT ELIJAH?

Jam 5:17-18 (KJV)

17 Elias was a man subject to like
passions as we are, and he prayed
earnestly that it might not rain: and it
rained not on the earth by the space of
three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven
gave rain, and the earth brought forth
her fruit.
WHAT HAPPENED?

The God that hears and answers

prayers, heard and answered his
prayer.
Luke 18:4-5 (KJV)
4 And he would not for a while: but
afterward he said within himself,
Though I fear not God, nor regard
man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth
me, I will avenge her, lest by her
continual coming she weary me.
THAT MAN OUGHT TO PRAY AND
NOT FAINT

Luke 18:1 (KJV)

And he spake a parable unto them to
this end, that men ought always to
pray, and not to faint;
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE PRAY?

Luke 18:8 (KJV)

I tell you that he will avenge them
speedily. Nevertheless when the Son
of man cometh, shall he find faith on
the earth?
WHAT THE CHURCH NEEDS NOW:
I. THE SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH
II. THE CHURCH IN UNITY
III. THE CHURCH THAT PRAYS
IV. THE FAITH OF THE CHURCH
Jam 2:14-20 (KJV)
14 What doth it profit, my brethren,
though a man say he hath faith, and
have not works? can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and
destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them,
Depart in peace, be ye warmed and
filled; notwithstanding ye give them
not those things which are needful to
the body; what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works,
is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast
faith, and I have works: shew me thy
faith without thy works, and I will
shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one
God; thou doest well: the devils also
believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man,
that faith without works is dead?
Jam 2:10 (KJV)
For whosoever shall keep the whole
law, and yet offend in one point, he
is guilty of all.
Eccl 7:20 (KJV)
For there is not a just man upon earth,
that doeth good, and sinneth not.
SALVATION IS ONLY BY FAITH

Heb 11:6 (KJV)

But without faith it is impossible to
please him: for he that cometh to
God must believe that he is, and that
he is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek him.
WHAT IS FAITH THEN?

Heb 11:1 (KJV)

Now faith is the substance of things
hoped for, the evidence of things not
seen.
Types of Faith
1. FAITH THAT IS ALL TALK

Jam 2:14 (KJV)

What doth it profit, my brethren,
though a man say he hath faith, and
have not works? can faith save him?
Jam 2:15-16 (KJV)
15 If a brother or sister be naked,
and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them,
Depart in peace, be ye warmed
and filled; notwithstanding ye
give them not those things which
are needful to the body; what
doth it profit?
WHAT DOES IT PROFIT?
Nothing

Gal 6:10 (KJV) As we have therefore

opportunity, let us do good unto all
men, especially unto them who are of
the household of faith.

Jam 2:17 (KJV)

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is
dead, being alone.
Titus 1:16 (KJV)
They profess that they know God; but
in works they deny him,

NO MAN CAN COME TO CHRIST BY

FAITH AND REMAIN THE SAME.
2. A FAITH THAT IS JUST
INTELLECTUAL OR EMOTIONAL

Jam 2:19 (KJV)

Thou believest that there is one God;
thou doest well: the devils also
believe, and tremble.
Mark 12:28-34 (KJV)
28 And one of the scribes came, and
having heard them reasoning together,
and perceiving that he had answered
them well, asked him, Which is the first
commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all
the commandments is, Hear, O Israel;
The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind, and with all thy
strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself. There is none other
commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well,
Master, thou hast said the truth: for
there is one God; and there is none
other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart,
and with all the understanding, and
with all the soul, and with all the
strength, and to love his neighbour as
himself, is more than all whole burnt
offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he
answered discreetly, he said unto him,
Thou art not far from the kingdom of
God. And no man after that durst ask
him any question.
You are not far from the Kingdom
of God

Mark 12:34 (KJV)

34 And when Jesus saw that he
answered discreetly, he said unto him,
Thou art not far from the kingdom of
God. And no man after that durst ask
him any question.

Jam 2:19 (KJV) Thou believest that there

is one God; thou doest well: the devils
also believe, and tremble.
OUR FAITH IS MUCH, MUCH
MORE BETTER THAN THE FAITH
OF THE DEVIL.
3. A TRUE FAITH THAT WORKS

Jam 2:18 (KJV)

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith,
and I have works: shew me thy
faith without thy works, and I will
shew thee my faith by my works.
The Bible says, that man looks
on the outward appearance,
but God looks on the heart.

Jam 2:20 (KJV):

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that
faith without works is dead?
CONCLUSION:
Jam 2:26 (KJV)
For as the body without the spirit is
dead, so faith without works is dead
also.

Matt 7:21 (KJV) Not every one that

saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter
into the kingdom of heaven; but he that
doeth the will of my Father which is in
heaven.
WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

2 Cor 13:5 (KJV)

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the
faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not
your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is
in you, except ye be reprobates?
