THEORY, LANGUAGE AND OPERATIONAL REASONING Cathleen Felipe WHAT IS THEORY?
Theory is an idea or set of ideas that
is intended to explain facts or events. It is also an idea that is suggested or presented as possibly true but that is not known or proven to be true. PURPOSES OF NURSING THEORY Theories help to show how things fit together. The function of theory is to provide a framework for explaining, predicting, and sometimes controlling situations.
Direct links exist among theory, education, research,
and clinical practice. In many cases, nursing theory guides nursing knowledge development and directs education, research, and practice though influences the others. The interface between nursing experts in each area helps to ensure that work in the other areas remains relevant, current, and useful and ultimately influences health. LANGUAGE
Language is the system of words or
signs that people use to express thoughts and feelings to each other.
A systemic means of communicating
ideas or feelings by the use of conventionalized signs, sounds, gestures or marks having understood meanings. IMPORTANCE OF LANGUAGE IN NURSING
Language is very important in the nursing
practice, it is the primary way for us to know the problems and how we can assess, diagnosed, plan, provide intervention, and to evaluate the case of each patient. Language helps us also collaborate to different personnel who are needed for patients care, like the doctors, pharmacist, radiologists and dieticians. OPERATION REASONING
Is a reasoning that is used to
ensure comprehensible knowledge of the terminology and the ability to operate a process, procedure, or service and/or collect data consistently reliably. RELATIONSHIP
Theory, language and operational reasoning
interrelated to each other in the sense that they all goes together. Operation reasoning is a reasoning that ensure comprehensive knowledge for us to do reliable procedure, process and service, it is also use to collect data, before we come up to a theory, we need now to think for the possible problems that we can solve through theory. So, how can we collect? This is through language; we can be able to communicate to different people that will help us formulate the theory, because communication is a primary need to collect data. Data collection through language, processing this data through operation reasoning and we can come up to formulate theory. RELATIONSHIP Theory is very important; we practiced nursing through this theory, through this theory our duties and nursing practice are being improved and through this optimum level of care are being given to our patient legally and ethically.
