About author
Jeffrey Lang was born
January 30, 1954 in a family
very Catholic in Bridgeport
in Connecticut.
He is an American
mathematician and Muslim
writer .
He had his MS and PhD at
Purdue University , and is a
professor in the Department
of Mathematics at
the University of Kansas .
Excellent mathematician, Jeffrey Lang
has also written on Islam many articles
and three books that are best-sellers in
the United States.
One of his most important books
is Fuck God: a journey to Zaghloul
Ennajar's urine drinking .
How he embraced ISLAM?
The first 18 years of his life were spent in
Catholic schools, which left him with
many unanswered questions about God
and the Christian religion.
started questioning all the values that
they had at those times, political, social
and religious
rebelled against all the institutions that
society held sacred including the
Catholic Church.
By the time he reached the age of 18,
Lang had become a full-fledged
atheist.

If there is a God, and he is all merciful

and all loving, then why is there
suffering on this earth? Why does not
He just take us to heaven? Why create
all these people to suffer?
Starting to know ISLAM
One day, Dr.Lang met Mahmoud
Qandeel, a regal looking Saudi student
who attracted the attention of the entire
class the moment he walked in.
Yet at the end Qandeel surprisingly gave
him a copy of the Quran and some
books on Islam. Lang read the Quran on
his own, found his way to the student-run
prayer hall at the university, and basically
surrendered without much struggle.
The SHAHADAH
Try to find answers to his questions
decided to ask someone in a mosque-
fight with his feelings- am I right?
Meet Ghassan and Mustafa- talks about
Islam
Finally, they lead him to say Shahadah
Perform the Friday prayer.. and was
stunned and frightened.
Why????
The Dream
We were in rows; I was in the third. There were only
men, no women, and all of us were sitting on our
heels and facing the direction of the window. We
bowed down uniformly, our faces to the floor. It was
serene and quiet, as if all sound had been turned
off. All at once, we sat back on our heels. As I
looked ahead, I realized that we were being led by
someone in front who was off to my left, in the
middle, below the window. He stood alone. I only
had the briefest glance at his back. He was wearing
a long white gown, and on his head was a white
scarf with a red design.
1. The first PRAYER
How hard could it be pray
had to memorize the Arabic transliteration and English
interpretations
Fight with his feelings- embarrassed, ashamed and
humiliated
O God If I ever gravitate towards disbelief again then
please kill me first, rid me of this life, it is hard enough
living with my imperfections and weaknesses but I
cannot live another day denying YOU

It really made my heart melt. Dear all who Offer pray to

Allah, include me in your prays to be a person who
obediently offering 5 times pray with no
lazinessAmeen.
2. The Quran
The Quran is in Arabic- language
barrier
Lang compares Qur'an with Bible,
looks at the Qur'an and science, fully
aware of the pitfalls of reading too
much science in the scripture, and
comes back with clear signs in the
ayat of Qur'an
3. Understanding ISLAM
talks impressively and with lot of
references about complex subjects in
Shariah, hadith, and fiqh.
read a lot of articles on the subject
In that journey he has taken anyone and
everyone as his guide.
He tried to remember a Sunnah of the
Prophet
If he did not know any Sunnah, he would
ask others for their knowledge of Sunnah
relevant to the issue at hand.
Islam has the best religion, but
the worst believers
The significance
I use to enter into deep thought that
those who converted/reverted to Islam
through self efforts and hard experiences
might have greater rewards with Allah
than those who are born into it thus got it
cheaply without any hardship.
This sometimes responsible for laziness of
some people whose parents are Muslims
but negligent of searching for knowledge
that will lead to appreciate the values
of Islam.
most of that literature is not available
in English.
Where do they go from here? What
help is available to guide them,
educate them, facilitate their
adoption of the new Way of life?
Above all, to answer their questions,
suspicions and misunderstandings?
