Agency Mission Statement

Southeastern Family Violence Center has been helping individuals and families on their journey towards
a more peaceful life since 1981. We believe in each persons right to self-determination, safety, and a life
free from violence. Survivors of intimate partner/family violence must be offered a safe, respectful, non-
judgmental environment to identify their own needs and make their own decisions. In addition to being
an advocate for survivors of domestic violence, we also assist individuals who have been a homemaker
and are now displaced.

 HISTORY OF SOUTHEASTERN FAMILY VIOLENCE CENTER
(SFVC)

Began as the Robeson County Committee on Domestic Violence in 1981

- 5 concerned citizens of Robeson County founded SFVC.
- The offices and shelter were initially combined.
- In the mid- 90s SFVC purchased a separate location for offices and
kept the shelter.
- In 2003 the shelter underwent extensive renovations.
 SFVC TODAY

o The SFVC has served over 15,000 individuals and families during its 26 years of
operation
o Supports a staff of 10
o Has an operating budget over $450,000
 FUTURE DIRECTIONS OF SOUTHEASTERN FAMILY
VIOLENCE CENTER

Continue to expand services to all victims of domestic violence and offer supportive services to communities that
help alleviate factors (Homelessness, Jobless, Hungry, Poor, etc.) that may help. The goal is to get the client or
family self-sufficient.

Community Outreach- to continue to give awareness to community, especially through the high schools (13-17),
getting the community involves includes getting to notice signs and unhealthy relationships. If the perpetrator is
looking help, offer them services.

Court Advocate- expand domestic violence task force.

Rapid Rehousing- would like for clients be financially stable on their own and able to maintain housing that was
provided for them.

Latino Advocate- Reach out to different vendors and development a scholarship type program for first year Latino
students and other resources for post-secondary education (college, university, ESL classes)
