Current version displays on splash
window as ChemCAD is opening.

Click Help, About CHEMCAD

Installing ChemCAD
http://www.che.msstate.edu/people/undergraduate/

Download and install the ChemCAD software

Installing ChemCAD
Open the ChemCAD program
At License Monitor, click Setup. You
should arrive at the screen shown below.
Installing ChemCAD
Click the System Authorization button
Copy the system key and email to
tamar@che.msstate.edu with polite request
for a license.
Make sure to leave ChemCAD open until
Ms. Tamar responds with your License
Key.
Installing ChemCAD
After Tamar Burrell responds with key, copy and
paste into ChemCAD.
License monitor should look similar to below
Building a Flow Sheet
Should have a toolbar along the top similar to
below.

Choose the appropriate unit operation(s)

Building a Flow Sheet
Add the entering and exiting arrows.
Identify the red dots and the blue dots.
Building a Flow Sheet
Connect the dots

Entering Arrows
Should equal entering streams on unit op
Exiting Arrows
Should equal exiting streams on unit op
Inputting Data
Build the Simulation Flow Sheet
Add components of interest
Click Thermophysical, Select Components
Inputting Data
Choose desired components from list
Can search for the desired chemical by
common name, IUPAC name, or ID number
Inputting Data
Once chemical(s) have been found, double-click
the compound or click the right arrow after
selecting the desired compound
Inputting Data
If the chemical selected is not the one desired,
click Next (e.g. Searching for ethanol will
first display methanol, click next to select the
next match: ethanol)
Inputting Data
Delete
Removes only the chemical selected
Clear
Removes all chemicals in the box
Copy Components from Another Simulation
Useful if the same components are used in multiple jobs
Allows the user to choose the job with the desired chemicals
Inputting Data
Once all chemicals have been selected, click OK
Thermodynamics Wizard should automatically display

Thermodynamics Wizard valid for this assignment

only. It can and will make mistakes in choosing the
appropriate model.
Inputting Data
Double-click the red arrow(s) or right-click the
stream itself and choose Edit Stream
Inputting Data
Click OK to begin entering data
Add amounts of chemicals
Can change Comp Unit to obtain correct units
Inputting Data
Right Click on the Unit Ops
Choose Edit Unit Op Data
Inputting Data

ChemCAD can calculate Dew Point
Select Feed Stream
Remove just the Temperature Value
Can also remove just pressure value
Enter Vapor Fraction Value of 1
Click Flash
Temperature given is the
Dew Point
Black Writing indicates
ChemCAD calculated the value
Other Useful Information
ChemCAD can calculate Bubble Point
Select Feed Stream
Remove just the Temperature Value
Can also remove just pressure value
Enter Vapor Fraction Value of 0
Click Flash
Temperature given is the

Black Writing indicates
ChemCAD calculated the value
User Beware
MUST RUN THE SIMULATION
After Making ANY Modifications
Such as to Flow, Thermodynamics, or Chemicals
Otherwise, will get same information as previous
run-- **User Beware**
ANY Changes
Automatically saved
I.E. Flow Amount in Feed Stream
Original is overwritten and new is saved
Occurs even if you do NOT save
Example
Use ChemCAD to determine the heat required to
vaporize 60 mol% of a liquid stream entering an
evaporator at 90oF and 140 psia and containing
lbmol/hr
n- Hexane 325
n- Heptane 500
n- Octane 675
Assume that the evaporator product is at 135 psia
Example
Select Proper Unit Operations
Search for Separators or click the Separators
category under UnitOp(s)

Add lines and arrows:

Example
Click Thermophysical, Select Components
