Common Core

(CCSS)

What is CCSS's?
Common Core State Standards Initiative
"set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English
language arts/literacy (ELA)"
What students should know and be able to explain at the end of
each grade level
Help prepare students for college, their careers, and their lives
Common core is state-led and is not mandatory making the
federal government not involved
Bloom's Taxonomy and CCSS
Revised in 1990s to exchange the top two levels and
go from nouns to verbs
Each level has its own teacher and student roles
Teachers mostly focus on the bottom two levels
Plays a large role in the making of Common Core
Standards
Majority of CCSS relates to the bottom levels of
Bloom's Taxonomy (Remembering and
Understanding)
Every grade level should gain more access to the top
levels throughout education (Evaluating and Creating)

Conclusions
Common Core is led by the states and says what each student should know at the end of each grade
level in order to help prepare them for college, career, and their lives.
Common Core relates to Bloom's Taxonomy, but mostly relates to the two bottom levels. Throughout
Common Core, each grade should gain more access to the top levels.
Smarter Balanced Assessment and PARCC are aligned with Common Core standards to help determine
how students are doing.
