HISTRORY OF MDMS
In 1962 it was introduced by K.Kamaraj
In 1982 it was extended NMS by MGR
In 2001, MDMS minimum contents of 300 calories of
energy every child.
8-12 gms of protein per day
Minimum of 200 days
OBJECTIVES OF MDMS
Improving the nutritional status of children in classes
I-VIII in Government.
Encouraging poor children, belonging to
disadvantaged sections.
To attend school more regularly and help them
concentrate on classroom activities
Providing nutritional support to children of primary
stage in drought-affected areas during vacation.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF MDMS
It has increased the enrolment & attendance of
children in schools
Good practices like washing hand before eating and
after eating are imparted in the schools
The scheme has played a significant role in bringing
social equity among all the sections of the society.
Schools were having Kitchen sheds for cooking
midday meal.

MDMS is a very important strategy to overcome


malnutrition
Pre Independence & Post Independence
MDMS was introduced in 1925 in Madras
corporation by British administration.
Union Territory of Puducherry by the French
administration in 1930.
In 1962-63 MDMS introducing primary schools by
Kamaraj
In 1982 CM MGR upgraded the existing MDMS
Nutritious food scheme.
TN has implemented a scheme for its children in the
shortest period time.
Factors for Socialization
1. No special discrimination among the various castes
2. Good social interaction.
3. Gender equality
4. Women are given jobs as MDMS care taker.
5. Social values are developed.
6. Opportunity for girls to eat good nutritious meal.
Objectives of MDMS
To institutionalize essential services & strengthen
structures at all levels.
To raise public awareness & Participation
To create database and knowledge base for child
development services
To enhance capacities at all levels
