Canine distemper (canine influenza, carres , hard

pad diseases )
It is an acute highly infectious viral disease of carnivorous
animals characterized by diphasic fever, ocular & nasal
catarrh and frequent cutaneous eruption. The infection is
often manifested by bronchopneumonia, gastro enteritis &
encaphalitis.

Distribution:- 1st recorded in 18th century in Europe. Bordetella

bronchiseptica was considered as a causative agent of this
disease.
Etiology:- RNA virus (paramyxo group). Virus is closely related
to measles and rinderpest viruses.
Mode of transmission:- inhalation(droplets and
aerosol). Air born disease. Virus is also discharge
through secretion and excretion. The virus may
indirectly transmitted through ingestion of
contaminated food and water.
Pathogensis:- VIRUS INHALATION PALATINE
TONSIL MACROPHAGE LYMPHOID VESSELS
BLOOD VESSELS BONE MARROW SPLEEN
LTMPHOID TISSUES LEUKOPAENIA
LEUKOCYTOSIS .
Clinical finding:- animal is dull depressed. High rise in
temp. (biphasic reaction). Temp. rises upto 103to 104
degree F. the temp. come down in96 hrs.
CANINE PARVO VIRUS
CAUSES AVD EPIDEMIOLOGY:-It is caused by type-2
canine parvovirus(CVC-2), a non enveloped s-s DNA
virus, of which two pathogenic variants, types 2a and
2b are recognized. Evidence suggests that an evolution
of type 2a variant to the type 2b, type 2b is most
common infecting dogs of US. Both variant found in
other parts of world.
Transmission :- the virus is transmitted primarily by fecal-
oral route. CVP is quite stable under environment & hospital
conditions. CVP is resistant to many detergent and
disinfectants, although it is in activated by bleach solution
(bleach:water 1:29), formalin and sunlight.
