The three methods that psychologists
use to study the brain are:

Recording

Stimulation

Lesioning
 Recording
Electrodes can detect
the electrical pluses
that are discharged
when neurons fire.
Electrodes can even
detect single
neurons.
Two researchers found
that different
neurons fire for
different things.
EEG
The EEG or
Electroencephalograph was
created to see neurons
firing in the entire brain.
Using the EEG scientists have
found that the brain
functions in waves;
neurons tend to increase or
decrease their activity at
the same time.
 Stimulation
The brain can be stimulated either electrically
or chemically.
It is stimulated electrically when electrodes
send small electrical pulses to certain parts of
the brain.
When certain chemicals are introduced to the
brain, they can affect certain things like
hunger or thirst.
 Lesioning
Psychologist sometimes
lesion(cut away or
destroy) certain parts of
animals brains. If the
animal acts different
after the surgery, then it
is assumed that that
part of the brain
controlled that trait.
