Most common energy sources are fossil fuels. However, Rising fuel
prices, depletion of these reserves and increasing concern for global
climate change have lead to the objective of reducing our
dependence on fossil fuels, using alternate sources and improving
efficiency of existing plants.

concept.

Energy storage involves converting energy from forms that are difficult to
store to more conveniently or economically storable forms.
Bulk energy storage is currently dominated by hydroelectric dams.
Batteries are the most common type of energy storage device.
Need for energy storage:
Electricity can be distributed during peak demand easily from the reserves.
Any unpredictable high frequency in demand can be catered to through back up
energy stored.
A Step towards decarbonisation
Variability of RES can be handled by storage of energy when they are in abundance.
Also promotes full integration of RES.
