CASE PRESENTATION

Jessie Smith
Client is a 17 year old African American male. He states that his
childhood was unpleasant, his mother was prostituting in the
home in front of him and was an alcoholic. He states he has
been homeless, neglected, abused, and emotionally abused as
a child.

CLIENTS BACKGROUND
Client in involved in gang called the Bloods since age 9 via his
uncle
Client uses marijuana to destress
Clients struggles with anger issues and not knowing how to deal
with them
Client has a broken family and support system

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Clients goal in PORT Health Services is to get clean from drugs,
stay clean from drugs, move away from home to get out of gang
life, and go to college (states he is interested in becoming an
engineer).
Through family counseling, the client wishes for his mother to get
clean from drugs and to become closer as a family.

STRENGTHS & LIMITATIONS


Clients assessment goals were to get client focused on positive
aspects of family life.
Get client prepared for next steps in life as an adult whether it be
college, or military next.
To get client away from current living situation as he wishes to not
be a part of gang life anymore.

ASSESSMENT GOALS
Client has issues coping with anger. Treatment plan is focused
around healthy coping skills for client to self manage anger.
Family counseling- Client loves family, but due to abuses and
drugs does not know how to properly be involves in family life.
Part of his treatment includes family counseling to bring the family
together and focus on their strengths as a unit.

SPECIFIC INTERVENTIONS
What are some biases you had going into the interview?
That I knew teenagers behave certain ways just because they are
teenagers.
What were some value differences between you and the client?
I believe loyalty and respect should be given and received by all, the
client believes that respect must be proven or earned.
What events or life experiences have shaped them into the person
they are?
His family and gang activity have shaped him into who he is today. His
love for his family and goals for the future have also shaped him to want
to change who he is.

QUESTIONS
What is the staff recommendation about diagnosis, Interventions or
treatment?
Staff recommends after treatment care since he is about to graduate
the program, move away from home with his aunt, and begin college
as soon as possible to stay focused on his goals.
What does research say on their diagnosis/problem/treatment?
Research suggests family counseling to mend broken trust between
family members and to establish a strong support system.
What changes do recommend for the agency or service (Needs of
agency, changes, and rights issues)? Report those to supervisor.
I recommend that staff stop arguing amongst themselves in front of
clients, and increased funding for treatment and diets of clients.
