What has changed and why?
Regular review of the Companys Safety Rules is a requirement of
the Distribution Code
Some necessary clarifications and amendments have been
identified in audits and incident investigations
Rules added for work on new 132kV system

Updated guidance notes

Mechanical Safety Rules not included these will be reproduced


separately

Summary of Changes
Section 1, GENERAL PROVISIONS:

1.5 Following any operational incident (e.g. switching error, suspected non-
compliance, flash-over etc), the Authorisation of persons involved will be
suspended pending the outcome of investigation.

Section 2, DEFINITIONS:

Definitions added for Caution Notice, Danger Notice, Dead, CME,


Drain/Running/Bridging Earths, Live, Isolation & Earthing Certificate, Safety
Lock.

NEXT STEPS.
1. Remove pages 1 to 54 of the Mechanical and Electrical Safety Rules and
pages 1 to 56 of the Guidance Notes from your personal issue book and
return to HSE Department

2. HSE Dept will issue to you a copy of the new Electrical Safety Rules and
updated Guidance Notes:

a) Insert new pages in your book

b) On page 3 (Receipt) and page 5 (Receipt Copy) of the Electrical Safety

Rules, insert your personal details, sign and date both pages

c) Give the signed Receipt, page 3, to your HSE representative and keep

the Receipt Copy (page 5) in your book.

3. Sign the attendance register to confirm that you understand the changes
