What is question tag?

Question tag is a special grammatical


stucture. it is a statement followed
by a tag or mini question, we add a
tag at the end of some statements
to get a response.
In the question-tags, the necessary auxiliary or auxiliary verb.
Among other types of auxiliary:

1. Be auxiliary
a) is, am, are for the simple present tense/bentuk sekarang
b) was/were for the simple past tense/lampau
2. Do auxiliary
a) do/ does for the simple present tense/ sekarang
b) did for the simple past tense/lampau
3. Have auxiliary
a) have/has for the simple present tense
b) had for the simple past perfect tense
4. Modal auxiliary
a) can, may, will, would, must ,should ,could, mig
Form of Question Tag

1. Positive Question Tag


Positif tag = Auxiliary Verb + Pronoun
(Pronoun is a pronoun of the subject in a positive sentence)
Example :
is it? do you?

are you? does he?

are they? did they?

was she? has she?

were you? have you?


EXAMPLE SENTENCE :

1. If the statement is positive followed by the tag is


negative.

1. you are a nurse, Arent you ? Kamu perawat, kan?

2. Yasmin can inject patient, Cant she? Yasmin bisa menyuntik


pasien, kan ?

3. Budi does like medicine, Doesnt you ? Budi tidak suka obat kan?

4. A nurse will check patient, Wont she ? Perawat akan me


meriksa pasien, kan?

5. A patient must drink Pasien harus minum obat,


medicine, Mustnt he ? kan?

Negatif Tag = Auxiliary Verb + Nt (not) + Pronoun
isnt it? dont you?

arent you? doesnt he?

arent they? didnt they?

wasnt she? hasnt she?

werent you? havent you?


EXAMPLE SENTENCE :

2. If the statement is negative tag followed by positive.

1. You arent a nurse Are you ? Jastin tidak suka obat, kan ?

2. She cant inject patient, Can she ? Kamu akan memeriksa


pasien, kan ?

3. Budi doesnt like Does you ? Budi tidak suka obat ,kan?

3. When the subject I am, then the question tag


aren't I. However, if the subject I am not, then
question his tag am I.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE :

Im a nurse, arent i ?
[Saya adalah perawat ,kan ?]

I am not guilty, am I?
[Saya tidak bersalah, kan?]

4. If the sentences using modals, then use modals to


question his tag. Especially for modals have to, use
the auxiliary do to question his tag.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE :

Tiwi will be here, wont she?


[Tiwi akan ke sini, kan?]

They have to go to hospital, dont they?


[Mereka harus pergi ke rumah sakit, kan?]

1. Sinta went to hospital, Didnt she ? Sinta pergi ke rumah sakit,

2. He played medical Didnt he ? Dia bermain alat
deviced, kesehatan kan ?

3. Jhon studyed in Jhon belajar di akademi


nursing academy, Didnt he ? keperawatan, kan ?
RECORD

a. The word "NOT" in Negative Tag always


abbreviated. (will not = wont).
b. Use personal pronouns (pronouns name) in
the tag. (John isnt fit, is he?)
