The Romantic Period was not an era of love by definition. It was a
a time of reflection, spiritualism, and individualism. The significant
background of a rich history gave ample supply to authors on nationalism.
Their work drastically expanded the potential functions and results that
Could be expected of actions that took place in English (Elfengien, 2008).
William Wordsworth artistically wrote through the emotion of imagination.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge expressed his views through the artistic inspiration.
Other authors took imagination to a new level. Edgar Allan Poe used Gothic
as his genre to invoke the human psychology.

The Romantic Period authors connected with nature in a way that almost
seemed unnatural yet rejuvenate their readers. An important factor of some
Romantic Period authors is a writing form they shared. Romantic authors
wrote in poetry form. In whatever they form they wrote, the impression they
left behind created a momentum that still inspires todays authors.
The Victorian Period was named after Queen Victoria (1837-1901). This
literary event precede the Romantic Period and lasted sixty-four years.
Authors used this period to create heroes, heroines, and classic novels. One
of the biggest names to come out of the Victorian Period is Charles Dickens.
Big classics such as A Tale of Two Cities and A Christmas Carol brought to
life memorable characters that still remain popular today.

The trend of Gothic genre continues onto the Victorian Period. Authors such
as Emily Bronte, Charlotte Bronte, and Anne Bronte wrote in Gothic tones.

Many of the overtones of the Victorian movement reflected on the Industrial

Revolution. A few authors such as Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote on the
suffrage of children working in factories.

The Victorian Literature portrayed topics of economy, status, environment,

and religion. Much of the literature of the Victorian Period focused on the
Monarch rule of Queen Victoria.
