 OBJECTIVES
To determine the concentration particulate
matter (PM10) emission in the ambient air at
the selected location

 PROCEDURE
a) Preparation of Filter
1. High volume sampler (HVS PM10 sampler) will
collect PM10 by using Quartz Filter (20.3 cm x
25.4 cm, Whatman, Kent, UK). Quartz filter will
inspect for any flaw by using light table to check
pinholes and non-uniformity.
2. Wrap the filter with aluminium and pre-heated
at 500C for 3 hours in muffle furnace.
3. Condition the filter in desiccator at least for 24
hours and then weight on a electronic balance.
4. The filter are ready for the sampling process and
sampling will be carried out for 24 hours.

b) Sampling procedure
1. Locate the sampler in an area with unhindered
ventilation and must have electrical plug source
for 24 hour.
2. The sampler should be located 20 m from any
buildings and trees.
3. Install the conditioned filter into the filter
cassette. Then, ensure the filter is centrally located
on the support screen in the sampler before install
it on the top of the cassette on the filter. Separate
the upper and lower part of the cassette and
install the filter in the centre of the lower cassette.

5. Switch on the sampler and the LCD will display
the Main Screen.
6. Set the sampler setting (Start date, End date, On
time, Off time, Sampling days, volume flowrate,
and logger setting).
7. Regularly observe and check the sampler.
8. After sampling end, wrap the filter in aluminium
foil before keep it in suitable container.
9. Condition the filter in desiccator for 24 hours
before weighing the sample with electronic
balance.
