DECODING AND ENCODING

Encoding
The conversion of a message into some
symbolic form
Encoding translates the senders ideas into a
systematic set of symbols or a language
expressing the communicators purpose.
Decoding
A receivers translation of a senders message
Decoding the translation of received
messages into interpreted meanings.

SENDER AND RECEIVER

Sender
The sender initiates the communication
process by encoding his or her meaning
and sending the message through a
channel.

Receiver
The receiving person or group must
make sense of the information received.
 MESSAGES AND CHANNEL
Messages
The tangible forms of coded symbols that are intended
to give a particular meaning to the information or data.
A purpose to be conveyed

Channel
The carrier of the message or the means by which the
message is sent.
The medium by which a message travels
Example:
Facial expression and gestures
Conversation
Pictures, diagrams, figures, charts
 NOISE AND FEEDBACK
Noise
Any internal or external interference or distraction
with the intended message that can cause distortion in
the sending and receiving of messages

Feedback

The process of verifying messages and the receivers

attempts to ensure that the message he or she decoded
is what the sender really meant to convey.
The degree to which carrying out the work activities
require by a job results in the individuals obtaining
direct and clear information about the effectiveness of
his her performance

converts that to words and then into the pressing of keys on
the computer keyboard
Message: The text of the email sent Jane, can you meet me
for lunch on Tuesday? Regards, Mary.
Channel: The email system
Receiver: Jane
Decoder: Janes conversion of symbols seen on her
computer screen into an understanding that Mary
wants to know if Jane can meet her for lunch on
Tuesday
