ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (EAC)
Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) is the body delegated by BEM for
accreditation of engineering degrees.

Members of EAC comprise of representatives from:


1) The Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM),
2) The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM),
3) The Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), and
4) The Public Services Department / Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (JPA).

All Un-Recognized Engineering Degree must do a Top-Up in order to make
their degree acceptable by BEM

Top-Up can be in the form of a Master Degree in Engineering by

Un-Recognized engineering degree can join IEM as an Incorporated

BOARD OF ENGINEERS MALAYSIA
(BEM)
This regulatory body for engineering practices in Malaysia was set-up by the
Malaysian government under the Registration of Engineers Act (1967) to administer
and to enforce the Engineering Act and its provisions to protect public interest

Only Graduate Engineers and Professional Engineers registered with the Board of
Engineers, Malaysia (BEM) are entitled to practice engineering in Malaysia

All engineering practitioner MUST register with BEM within 6-months of practice.
INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS
MALAYSIA (IEM)
A learned society where engineers of various disciplines in every sector of economic
activities come together for mutual helpfulness and sharing of experiences and technologies

IEM works closely with BEM to enhance the status of engineers in the society
Help young engineers to establish themselves in the ranks
Establish social linkage between engineers
In general, a learned institution for practicing engineers in Malaysia for networking, technical
learning and socializing
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
The candidate shall carry out the practical experience at least 3 years in the
following manner as prescribed in Regulation 22(1) of the Registration of Engineers
Regulations 1990 (Revised 2015):
in the planning, design, execution or management of such works as comprised within the
profession of engineering
in engineering research
in the teaching in a course leading to a qualification in engineering research or in the
teaching in a course leading to a qualification approved by the Board, and at least one Year
of such practical experience shall be obtained in Malaysia under the supervision of a
registered Profession Engineer of the same discipline or an approved allied discipline and
shall be in fields of engineering practice other than in research or teaching.
IEM REQUIREMENTS

After completing an accredited engineering degree, graduates are required to


obtain at least 3 years of practical training and experience in engineering
works as are comprised within the profession of an Engineer before they are
eligible to apply to sit for Professional Interview.
LOG-BOOK TRAINING SCHEME

Mentor will guide, couch and verify the practical training and experience of
the Graduate Engineer (Mentee).
Mentee must meet Mentor regularly (at least quarterly) for guidance on and
verification of the practical training and experience.
