didnt listen to rock or pop.

 The Rolling Stones formed the first famous rock band in 1963.
The didnt like the pop music of the 1960s. They wanted to play
noisier, harder rock. They were the bad guys of rock.

simple rock music. Did other groups play
punk music before Green Day?
Yes, they did. Punk started in England in 1976.

Some Punk music was violent, but one group, The

Clash, didnt sing violent songs. They sang about

virtual band.

are animated
characters, not
real people.
The real
musicians
record the
songs in a
studio.
Gorillaz is a British virtual band. They play a mixture
of rap, rock and hip hop.
The band has four animated
characters.
-2D is the singer and keyboard player.
-Murdoc is the bass guitarist.
-Noodle is the guitarist and singer.
-Sussel is the drummer

But, the REAL singer-songwriter Damon Albarn created the

group
 HISTORY OF GORILLAZ
The band has a virtual history.
Why is it virtual? Because
Damon Albarn invented it.
2D was a keyboard
player. He worked in a
music store. One day, a
man called Murdoc
went into the music.
He stole a keyboard
and accidentally hurt
2Ds eye.
After the accident,
Murdoc took care of
2D and they became
friends.
Murdoc had a dream.
He wanted to form a
successful band.
Murdoc and 2D
started the band. 2D
was the singer and
the keyboard player
for the band.
 Murdoc
found the
drummer,
Russel, in a
rap music
store in
London.
Russel was
from the U.S.
and he had a
lot of friends
who were
rappers.
 The group needed a guitarist.
They put an ad in a music
magazine. That day they
received a big package from
Japan. They opened the
package and a girl with a guitar
appeared. Her name was
Noodle
Finally, in 1998 Gorillaz gave a concert. A man from a
record company walked onto the stage and asked
Gorillaz to sing a contract
 They recorded their first
almun, Gorillaz, in 2001. It
sold more than a million
and a half copies
