8
SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol

what?
a protocol to manage nodes (NE) in a IP based network
running over UDP, between
o SNMP server: manager
o SNMP client: agent
add, delete, modify configuration data: MIB
trap: for reporting events towards the manager
MIB = Management Information Database
versions?
V1 original version, security based on communities
V2 bulk date retrieval = faster, community based security
V3 stronger security
supported?
5520 AMS supports all versions,
depending on the type of node/the version of the node
