CFS Introduction

If the importer or exporter is far away from a sea port, it will be an inconvenience
to co-ordinate and handle the goods properly.

So governments of certain countries allow CFS (Container Freight Station) to


handle export and import formalities under customs supervision.

The cargo will be moved by rail or road from the sea port to CFS.

The exporter can complete customs formalities in CFS and ship the goods without
moving cargo to sea port.

Likewise, importer can take delivery of cargo near his place after completing
procedures at dry port
Operations at CFS
1. Receipt Of Empty Containers: 3. Stuffing Of Export Cargo:
- Receipt of Documents issued by Shipping Line - Custom examination of the cargo
- Entry of Empty Container - Receipt of stuffing request
- Stacking of empty containers in the yard - Stuffing of Cargo
- Release of empty vehicles - Sealing of Containers
- Preparation of the necessary records - Creation of documents
2. Carting Of Export Cargo: 4. Movement Of Export Loaded Containers From CFS To
- Entry of Cargo after verification of shipping bill Designated Port:

- Custom checklist, invoice packing list - Receipt of Movement Order from the Shipping Agent

- Checking of the vehicle - Loading of containers on trailers

- unloading and stacking of cargo - Issuance of the gate pass

- exit of the empty vehicle. - Entry at the Port Container Terminal


- Off-loading of Container
- Return of shipping bills to the concerned shipping lines
