AGENDA
LIGHT ?
Light is electromagnetic radiation within a certain portion of
the electromagnetic spectrum.
The word usually refers to visible light, which is visible to the human
eye and is responsible for the sense of sight.
PHOTOGRAPHY
It is the science, art, application and practice of creating durable
images by recording light
electronically by means of an image sensor,
or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as
photographic film.
Photos light, Graph drawing and together meaning "drawing
with light".
Lens - focus the light
Electronic image sensor - produces and processes electrical charge
at each pixel to digital image file.
BLACK-AND-WHITE
Not necessarily composed of pure blacks, whites, and intermediate
shades of gray but can involve shades of one particular hue.
The cyanotype - blue tones.

COLOR

Fun fact :
The first permanent color photograph was taken in 1861 using the three-
color-separation principle first published by Scottish physicist James Clerk
Maxwell in 1855.
MODES OF PRODUCTION
Amateur
Hobby/passion and not for profit.
The quality of some amateur work is comparable to that of many
professionals and may be highly specialized or eclectic in choice of
subjects.
Commercial
Commercial photography, Advertising photography, Fashion and
glamour photography, Concert Photography, Crime scene
photography, Still life photography, Food photography, Editorial
photography, Photojournalism, Portrait and wedding photography,
Landscape photography depicts locations, Wildlife photography,
Paparazzi, Pet photography
CAMERA
A camera is an optical instrument for recording or
capturing images, which may be stored locally, transmitted to
another location, or both.
still photographs or
sequences of images constituting videos or movies.

Image sensors
CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor)
each pixel has its active sensor
CCD (charge-coupled device) one active sensor for
all pixels
TYPES OF CAMERAS
Compacts
Rugged compacts
Action cameras
360-degree cameras
Bridge cameras
Mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras
Digital single-lens reflex cameras
Digital Single Lens Translucent (DSLT) cameras
Stand alone camera
PASM
PASM is an acronym for
Program,
Aperture Priority (Referred to as Av on Canon),
Shutter Priority (Referred to as Tv on Canon), and
Manual.
UNDERSTANDING SHUTTER
UNDERSTANDING APERTURE
PROGRAM MODE
Selects the optimum shutter speed and aperture.
Shallower depth of field - a lower f-stop setting(larger
aperture) and your camera will increase the shutter
speed to compensate.
Motion blur in your image - reduce the shutter speed
and your camera will adjust to a smaller aperture
(higher f-stop).
APERTURE PRIORITY (AV ON CANON)
Based on your aperture setting, the camera will
calculate what your shutter speed should be.
SHUTTER MODE (TV ON CANON)
Choose the shutter speed that you wish to shoot at and
let the camera make a decision about what aperture
to select to give a well exposed shot.
MANUAL
Manually control shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.
These three settings work together to control the how
bright or dark your photo is (known as exposure), as well
as change the overall look of the image.
PRIME VS ZOOM LENSES
A "prime" lens is one with a fixed focal length, while a "zoom"
lens is one that can zoomed in and out to provide a wider
range of focal lengths.
Prime lenses tend to have better optical quality than zooms,
and can usually achieve a wider aperture, giving them
better low-light performance.
On the other hand, the range of focal lengths offered by a
zoom lens can provide more flexibility, making them suitable
for a wider range of subjects.
LENS FOCAL LENGTHS, TYPES, AND USES

Focal Length Lens Type Common Subjects

(fisheye) skyscapes, artistic

24mm - 35mm Wide angle Interiors, architecture,

landscapes
35mm - 85mm (50mm Standard General purpose
common)
85mm - 135mm Short telephoto Portraits, candid
