CONTRIBUTIONS
GALLAUDET UNIVERSITY
Faculty Senate (2015-)
Have served on the Faculty Senate as a Faculty Member at Large
In this capacity, attend faculty senate meetings, providing input to key issues
(such as Gallaudet and Bilingualism, ASLPI and need for evidence-base
research information) to guide targets, etc.
Faculty Executive (2016-17)
Served in this capacity in the 2016-2017 AY subsequent to a request from
Dr. Caroline Solomon
My role was to provide input on key issues that arose during the academic
year (such as the restructuring of the faculty governing body, as well as a
possible new Faculty Model)
Bilingual Task Force (2017-)
I was asked to serve on this committee by Dr. Carol Erting
As a committee, we have been working on developing a definition of
bilingualism as it pertains to Gallaudet University as well as a policy that will
guide the university regarding how bilingualism is to be implemented on
campus
Grievance Committee (2015-2016)
Worked with other committee members to revise the Grievance Committee
By-Laws for the Gallaudet Faculty Handbook

Addressed a # of faculty grievances that were presented to the committee


in the 2015-2016 year
ASL Task Force (2016)
Invited to participate in the ASL Task Force, presided over by Dr. M.J. Bienvenue
Many lively discussions concerning the history of the ASLPI, ASL-DES as well as the
philosophy that would drive future initiatives
I and some others suggested evidence-based questions that should be addressed before
establishing a new policy, - such as:
How long does it take to acquire ASLPI Target Level-3, when commence at level 0, and
does it vary by department?
What types of supports are needed to assist faculty toward moving to a targeted goal?
Should there be one uniform target level or should they differ based on students needs for
that department?
