INDIAN RAILWAYS:
Indian railways is 4th largest railway network having route
length of 64,460 kms.
1st train ran on Indian track on 16 April 1853 between
Bori Bandar in Mumbai to Thane.
Over 12,000 trains carries over 30 million passengers
and 2.8 millions tones of freight daily.
Words largest public sector enterprise with 1.5 million
employees.
It is the world 8th biggest employer.
CARRIAGE WORKSHOP:
Carriage and Wagon workshop was built in 1884 for repairs
and manufacture of Carriage
and Wagon for the Rajputana-Malwa Railway. This
Workshop has proud privilege of being
The first workshop in the country to set up facilities in 1902
for the production of steel
Types Of Coach
LHB COACHES
FUNCTION:
It plays very important role in any frame, either ICF or LHB
Coach. And it is used to gain rolling motion in desired track.
WHEEL:
Generates rolling motion
Generally made from High speed stainless steel
AXLE:
Axle length is taken approx 2316.5mm and diameter taken
as 152mm. AXLE

WORKIN G PRINCIPLE:
Human waste
.
Liquid waste
Chlorination
Desinfected liquid
discharge on trace
The buffing machine is used
for super finishing of steel
items.
The buffing machine is used
for mob. Polish tool.
The screw coupling connects
two bogies
The Screw coupling is repaired
in following points
Disassemble
Shot blasting Process
Babari Process
Megnaflux Testing
Horizontal tensile testing

PU-Paint
Polyurethane is a polymer
composed of a chain of organic
units joined by carbonate
(urethane) links. While most
polyurethanes are thermosetting
polymers that do not melt when
heated.
DESIGN CRITERIA:
Means of dissipating the transformed energy
from kinetic energy
The workshop uses Hydraulic type absorbers
i.e fluid is the means
of dissipating heat energy.
FUNCTION:
Controlling the movement of springs and
VARIETY OF SHOCK ABSORBERS USED:
Vertical (6000kgs,9000kgs,4ookgs,300kgs)
Lateral(100kgs, 209kgs, 500kgs)
SCOPE OF IMPROVEMENT:
There are so many lateral shocks in LHB coaches of Indian
Railway,
when locomotive, either accelerates or applies brakes. It is
because
LHB coaching is fitted with CBC coupling instead of normal IRS
coupling which is used for ICF coaches. Due to presence of
CBC coupling shocks come to coaches in the moving direction
of train either during acceleration or deceleration because in
Dismantle springs are obtained.
Sand Blasting is done for cleaning
and stress relieving.
Visual inspection of spring:
If found any crack, seam, dent, pitting or
broken coil than reject immediately the
spring if not then pass.
Checking on magnetic crack
detection machine by ultra violet light and
reject the defective springs on Magna Fluxa.
Load Testing
Check free height of spring.
Apply the load on the spring by load testing
machine
Comparison from standard table.
