Introduction
What is well logging?

1. Well logging can be defined as the systematic

recording of data in wells being drilled or produced to

obtain various characteristics of down hole

formations.
Introduction
2. In well logging technique , several different kinds of

curves or log can be recorded , each curve shows a

sequence of peaks , deflections and flat zones ,

corresponding to the different formations penetrated

by the well.
Introduction
3. All the logs recorded have a similar general
appearance , but they are basically different in
physical parameters which have recorded with the
bore.

Hole devices differing in their performance.

History
1. In 1912, Conrad Schlumberger give the idea of using
electrical measurements to map subsurface rock
bodies.
2. In 1919, Conrad Schlumberger and his brother
Marcel being work on well logs.
3. The first electrical resistivity well log was taken in
France in 1927.
4. The instrument which was use for this purposes
called Sonde , the sond was stopped at periodic
intervals in borehole and the resistivity was plotted
on a graph paper.
History
5. In 1929, the electrical logs are introduce on commercial

scale in Venezuela, USA & Russia.

6. The Dip meter log were developed in 1930.

7. The photgraphic-film recorder was developed in 1936.

8. The Gamma-ray and Neutron logs were begin in 1941.
