Read-Write-Pair-Share

Read-Write-Pair-Share
What is it?

It is a four part routine for students to complete while reading a text:

1. Students either read silently or follow along in the text as the teacher reads aloud
2. They take some time to write their impressions or reactions, or answer a specific question
3. Students pair up with another student in the class to talk about what they wrote

4. The teacher then leads a large group discussion and has the pairs of students share what they
wrote down

Why use it?

Promotes peer interaction and accountability

Lowers the stakes for the students
