IN SUMMARY
The test was an interesting exercise to help me determine my teaching philosophy. I have
always known that my approach would be very student-oriented, and at their pace. As I have
read recently, this is more of a method that better suits a private school, or smaller public
school, which is what has always been my desire.
After learning the different education philosophies, it became clear that I am not a
behaviorists by any means. I think this has to do with the teaching styles I experienced as a
student. Remembering back to the teachers that had behaviorists tendencies, they were my
least favorite and often times I struggled in their classes. Maybe its that I dont like being told
what to do, but this teaching method was not effective in keeping my attention or relaying
information I could relate to.
Although I ranked highest in existentialism and reconstructionism, I feel I land in-between the
two as a Progressivist. These teaching styles all vary, but have similarities when it comes to the
curriculum focused on the student and the atmosphere that I want in my classroom. I hope that
by having a relatable, relaxed environment my students will be able to think freely and
experience things that challenge their thinking. I think by having an open atmosphere it will
allow my students to express themselves and be more creative.
